Science-Industry Links

Why do you think linking with industry is important to primary science? If possible, discuss this with a colleague.

Industry links are important. It takes science out of the book or classroom and puts it into the real world. It demonstrates to those primary school teachers, especially those without a background in science, the importance of science to our well being, our lifestyles and our economies. The links demonstrate that science creates wealth and that we might wish to spend the wealth created.
Those working in industry find school links worthwhile. The visits help with creating new ideas for business, improve morale and allow companies to put something very tangible back into their communities. The links improve children's views of business, hopefully encouraging them to take up careers in science-based industries.

What about others in education and industry?
